Free, every Friday

One good link. One short essay. Nothing else.

Recent issues

Issue 41: The last good map shop

A visit to a shop that still sells paper maps, and a link about how coastlines are surveyed.

Issue 40: Why the kettle is loud

Ten minutes on household noise, and a link to an archive of recorded kitchens.

Issue 39: A small defence of lists

Packing lists, shopping lists and the odd comfort of crossing things off.

What the server just did

A cut-down copy of the Signup Shield Worker (the subscribe and confirm path only; the kit adds the contact form, unsubscribe, export, the Durable Object and more) is running inside this page with a memory store; the confirmation email is shown below instead of being sent. Difficulty here is 14 bits and the minimum age 300 ms so the demo is quick (the kit defaults to 18 bits and 1,500 ms).
