A real board and its share card

Here is an example board in the Parsum style (it is not one of the game's boards). Your numbers are 100, 7, 6, 3, 2, 2 and the target is 381. Combine two numbers at a time (add, subtract, multiply or divide; subtraction stays above zero and division must be exact) and reach the target. The par is 4 steps: no route is shorter, and the solver found one. Here it is, so you can see what par means:

  1. 100 − 3 = 97
  2. 97 × 2 = 194
  3. 194 × 2 = 388
  4. 388 − 7 = 381

The share card after a par finish never shows a number from the route, only the target, par, your steps and the operations in order:

Parsum · target 381, par 4
★★★ 4 steps (par) · 0 checks · 0 hints
Operations: − × × −

Made for

Who it's for

People who liked the NYT Digits or the Countdown numbers roundAnyone who wants one calm daily puzzle without ads or sign-upMaths-minded players who want to beat par, not just finishTeachers and parents looking for mental-arithmetic practice

A score you can aim at

Stars come from steps against par, the exact fewest steps. There is no 'close enough': every board can be reached exactly, so the question is how cleanly.

Every board checked twice

Par and reachability are computed by an exhaustive search and confirmed by a second, independent program for all 160 boards.

Calm by design

No ads, no account, no timer pressure. Progress and streaks stay in your browser, and the new puzzle arrives at midnight on your clock.

A solver that shows the route

The free Parsum solver finds the shortest route for any six numbers and target, and says so when the target cannot be made.

Questions

Good to know

Is the daily puzzle really free?

Yes. Today's puzzle is free forever, with no ads and no account. The $4 Supporter Pass unlocks the archive, practice boards, stats and themes.

What is par?

Par is the smallest number of steps that reaches the target, found by an exhaustive search and confirmed by a second program. You cannot beat it, so finishing at par earns three stars.

What happens to my progress if I clear my browser data?

Streaks, results and your saved pass key live in your browser's local storage, so clearing site data erases them. Your pass key still works if you paste it again; keep the page you saw after paying.

Is this a copy of another game?

The format (reach a target by combining numbers) is an old one: the Countdown numbers round, NYT Digits and Make 24 all use it. Parsum's name, interface and par scoring are our own.

What if it doesn't work for me?

If it doesn't work as described or you can't access it, email us within 14 days and we'll fix it or refund you. See the refund policy for details.
