A real hill-adjusted band

This is the built-in sample rolling 10 km course (a made-up profile, not a real race) with a 50:00 goal. The flat column is what a flat band would tell you. The hill-adjusted splits still add up to exactly 50:00.

Made for

Who it's for

Runners with a hilly 10K, half or marathonTrail and ultra runners who want a climb-aware planCoaches and pacers who plan from a route fileAnyone who prefers a printed band to a watch

Your course, not a famous one

Any GPX file works: a race course download, a route from your watch, or a training loop.

Splits that add up

Slower on climbs, faster on descents, and the total is exactly your goal time.

Your file stays with you

Your GPX file is read in your browser and never sent anywhere. The only request the tool itself makes is the pass key check; the page also loads web fonts and a visitor counter.

The method is explained

Minetti 2002 energy cost, damped and clamped, with the limits written down on the page.

Questions

Good to know

Is the pace band really free?

Yes. Any distance and goal time, km or miles, even or split pacing, and printing are free. The pass adds your own GPX file, the elevation strip and saved plans.

Is my GPX file uploaded?

No. It is parsed in your browser and never sent anywhere (route or course files up to 30 MB). The page does load web fonts and a visitor counter, and the pass key is checked with our key service, but none of that includes your course. Plans are saved in this browser only, so clearing site data deletes them.

How accurate is the hill adjustment?

It is an estimate. It uses a published running energy-cost curve, smoothed elevation, damped and clamped on purpose. Heat, wind, fuelling and fitness matter too, so use it as a starting plan.

What if my file has no elevation?

Hillband tells you so and does not guess. Export the route again with elevation from your watch or planner.

Does the pass renew?

No. It is one $5 payment. Your key is checked with our key service and remembered in your browser.

Is this coaching or medical advice?

No. It is a pacing aid. Listen to your body and the race conditions.

What if it doesn't work for me?

If it doesn't work as described or you can't access it, email us within 14 days and we'll fix it or refund you. See the refund policy for details.
