Every cell holds a building. Each row and each column uses every height once, and the number on the edge tells you how many buildings you can see looking in from there, because a tall one hides every shorter one behind it.

Fill the grid so that every row and every column contains each height from 1 up to the grid size exactly once (a 5 by 5 board uses 1 to 5). Think of the numbers as buildings seen from above: a 5 is a tower, a 1 is a bungalow. The number outside a row or column says how many buildings are visible when you look along that line from that edge. A building is visible only if it is taller than everything between it and you. So a clue of 1 means the tallest building stands right at the edge, and a clue equal to the grid size means the heights climb 1, 2, 3 and on in order away from you. A blank clue means no information from that side. A ringed cell is given for free.

Controls. Select a cell with a tap or the arrow keys, then press a number on the pad or your keyboard. Switch on Pencil notes to jot candidate heights in small print instead. 0, Backspace or Delete clears a cell, and Undo is free. A clue gets a tick when its line is complete and matches, and a wavy underline with an exclamation mark when what you have placed already breaks it. A repeated height in a row or column is underlined with a wave. Check marks every wrong number with a cross and adds a check to your result. Hint fills in one cell and adds a hint to your result.

Stuck? The guide to solving skyscrapers puzzles teaches the techniques every Vantage board needs, and the Vantage solver will solve, check and explain the next step of any clue set you type in.

How scoring and sharing work

Every board has exactly one answer, confirmed by two independent programs, and each can be solved by logic alone with no guessing, so a stuck moment is never a bad board. Difficulty rises through the week: Monday is a small 4 by 4, Tuesday to Thursday are 5 by 5, and Friday to Sunday are 6 by 6 with fewer clues. You earn three stars for no checks and no hints, two stars for up to two checks and hints together, and one star for any other finish. The new puzzle arrives at midnight on your own clock.
