Plainwork / MailGate Email Check API / Common Email Domain Typos: gmial.com and More

Common email domain typos (gmial.com, hotmial.com and more)

The most common signup mistake is not a fake address, it is a real person mistyping their provider: [email protected] instead of [email protected]. The mail never arrives, the user never confirms, and you lose a real customer. This page lists the 26 typos the MailGate API catches today, grouped by the provider they were meant to be, and lets you test an address in your browser.

What to do when you find one

Do not silently rewrite the address. Show a prompt such as "Did you mean [email protected]?" with one click to accept, and let the user keep what they typed, since a few typo-looking domains are real. Never block the signup on a typo alone. Mistyped addresses are the one problem where the user can fix it in a second, so a hint recovers the signup instead of rejecting it.

Limits of a fixed list

This is an exact-match list for five big providers (Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, Outlook, iCloud) plus Protonmail. It will not catch gmaiil.com unless that exact string is listed, and it says nothing about company domains. A fuzzy edit-distance check would catch more but also produces false positives on real small domains, which is why we kept the list conservative. In the API a typo lowers the score by 40 points and sets did_you_mean.
