A real excerpt: what the file looks like inside

Every template is one HTML file you edit in a text editor. A job is one block, and you copy the block to add another. This is the first job in the Experience section of 01-classic.html (shortened to one bullet), with a made-up person:

<article class="job">
  <h3><span class="role">Software Developer</span>
      <span class="when">2022 to present</span></h3>
  <p class="where">Northfield Software, Denver, CO</p>
  <ul>
    <li>Own the billing and reporting modules of a scheduling product used by 400 clinics.</li>
  </ul>
</article>

The page size, margins and colours are set in the same file (@page { size: A4; margin: 14mm; }), so printing to PDF needs no tweaking beyond switching off the browser's headers and footers. The live demo has two of the six designs to open and print.

Made for

Who it's for

Developers who would rather edit HTML than fight a word processorDesigners and other makers who want a clean, quiet CVStudents and career-changers writing a first or second CVResearchers who need a multi-page academic CVAnyone who wants a CV that is a plain file they own

Built for print, then checked

Each of the 12 files was printed to PDF in headless Chromium 141. Templates 1 to 5 come out as one page on A4 and Letter, the academic CV as two.

Text a parser can read in order

One column and real text. We extracted the text from every PDF (pdftotext -raw, which follows content order, as copy-paste does) and checked that it reads name, summary, then your sections in the order you see them.

Nothing to install or learn

No build step, JavaScript, fonts or images. Open the file in a text editor, change the words, print. A guide shows which block to copy for another job.

Honest about the limits

We tested Chromium only. We do not claim any employer's applicant tracking system will accept your file, and the notes say so.

Questions

Good to know

Will this get past applicant tracking systems?

We can't promise that, and nobody honestly can. The templates use one column, standard headings, real text and no tables or text boxes, which is the common advice, and the text of every PDF reads in the right order when extracted in content order (pdftotext -raw, as copy-paste gives it). In pdftotext's default mode, right-aligned dates can land after their entry, and other extractors may differ. How a particular employer's system treats it is out of our hands.

Do I need to know how to code?

You need to be comfortable editing a text file. Changing the words is straightforward; adding another job means copying one block, and EDITING.txt shows which.

Which browsers did you test?

Headless Chromium 141 on Linux. Chrome and Edge use the same engine. Firefox and Safari were not tested, so if something looks off there, print from Chrome.

Why A4 and Letter in separate folders?

Each file sets its own paper size and margins, so choosing the folder is all you do. The designs are identical.

Can my CV be longer than one page?

Yes. Templates 1 to 5 are sized to fit one page with room to spare for your own text, and the page breaks avoid splitting a job. The academic template is built for two or more pages. Always check the page count of your own PDF.

Can I make CVs for other people?

For up to 5 other people per purchase. You can't resell or share the templates themselves. See LICENSE.txt in the zip.

What if it doesn't work for me?

If it doesn't work as described or you can't access it, email us within 14 days and we'll fix it or refund you. See the refund policy for details.
