Vercel Hobby plan limits: what the free tier includes and what happens when you hit them

Short answer, read from Vercel's own documentation on 2026-10-18: the Hobby plan is free and includes 100 GB of Fast Data Transfer, 1,000,000 CDN requests and 1,000,000 function invocations a month, but it allows 100 deployments a day, one concurrent build, and is "non-commercial, personal use only" [1] [2]. When you pass a usage limit, in most cases you wait 30 days before you can use that feature again [1]. This page lists the figures that decide whether Hobby is enough, with the source and the date each was read. Prices are USD and exclude tax, as the docs state.

What happens when you exceed a limit

The Hobby page says: "if you exceed your usage limits on the Hobby plan, you will have to wait until 30 days have passed before you can use the feature again", with shorter pauses for some features; Web Analytics collection pauses and can resume after 7 days [1]. Deployment limits behave differently: after 100 deployments in a day, "you will need to wait another day before you can deploy again" [2]. The limits page also says static files such as an index.html are not classed as a build, but a Next.js style build is, and each Vercel Function counts as a build [2]. We did not test any of these behaviours; this is what the documentation says.

Is Hobby enough? A quick check

  1. Does the site earn money for anyone, take payment, or carry ads? Then Hobby is not allowed regardless of traffic [1]. See what Vercel counts as commercial, and where else to host.
  2. Do you deploy from CI on every commit? 100 deployments a day and one concurrent build are the first ceilings a busy repo meets [2].
  3. Do you work with other people? Team collaboration features are Pro only [1].
  4. Will you pass 100 GB of transfer in a month? Estimate pages per month times page weight. If you are near it, expect the 30-day wait or a move to Pro.

Moving to Pro: the cost

Vercel advertises a 14-day Pro trial with $20 in credits [1]. Pro itself is a $20 a month platform fee with $20 of usage credit per month, as read on the Pro plan page on 2026-10-16 [3]. We did not re-read that page today. Extra seats and usage beyond the credit are billed on top.

If you are weighing a move off Vercel

Free hosts differ on commercial use and limits. Netlify and Cloudflare Pages Free are covered on their own page, and the free replacement scorecard turns your must-haves into pass or fail tests. If you want the full dated, sourced shortlist against your constraints, Switch Brief does that for $39 within 24 hours.

What we could not establish

  • Overage rates for Pro were not re-read today.
  • Whether a given limit is soft or hard in practice; only the documentation wording is reported.
  • Limits change. Check the linked pages before you rely on a number.
