Notice period calculator: calendar days or business days
Your contract says "60 days' notice" or "10 business days' notice" before the renewal date. Enter the renewal date and the notice, choose how the contract counts, and get the last day to give notice, with the weekday it falls on. Add public holidays if the contract excludes them.
Nothing you type here leaves your browser. To keep every deadline in one list and in your calendar, open Renewal Radar. For calendar-day notice with the next cycles, use the cancel-by date calculator.
How the last day is counted
- Calendar days: the notice period is subtracted from the renewal date day by day. 30 days before 15 March is 13 February (28 days in February 2026), whatever the weekday.
- Business days: the calculator steps back from the renewal date one day at a time and counts only Monday to Friday days that are not in your holiday list. The renewal date itself is not counted. So 5 business days before Monday 12 October 2026 is Monday 5 October 2026.
- Safety margin: extra calendar days are taken off the result and shown as a separate "send by" date, so the notice arrives instead of merely leaving you on the last day.
Worked example
A co-working agreement renews on Friday 1 January 2027 and needs 10 business days' notice. The only holiday to skip is Friday 25 December 2026; the renewal day itself is not counted. Counting back: 31 Dec, 30 Dec, 29 Dec, 28 Dec (4 business days), skip Sat 26 and Sun 27 Dec, skip Fri 25 Dec (holiday), 24 Dec, 23 Dec, 22 Dec, 21 Dec, 18 Dec, 17 Dec (10). The last day for notice is Thursday 17 December 2026, five days earlier than a count of 10 calendar days (22 December) would give. Check the list for your country: public holidays differ by country and region, and the calculator only skips the dates you type.
Three things a contract can change
- Sent or received. Some contracts need the notice to be received by the deadline, not posted. Use the safety margin for this.
- Which day counts as day one. Some clauses count from the day after the renewal date, some from the date of the notice. If your clause is clear, follow it, and move the result a day if needed.
- Form of notice. Written notice to a named address or email is common. A support chat or a cancel button may not count.
Check your contract
This is a reminder tool, not legal advice. Your contract wording always wins. If a date matters financially, ask the other side to confirm in writing that they have your notice.
