GuideNo. 1015-04

Is your power bank allowed on your flight?

A free checker that turns mAh into watt-hours and applies the 2025-26 airline rules, plus a sourced rules table and a guide to cabin-safe power banks.

  • mAh and voltage to Wh, or enter the printed Wh
  • Verdict per airline: fine, ask first, or not allowed
  • Warning when an estimate sits near the 100 Wh line
  • Dated airline rules table with a source link for each row
  • Buying guide by class, chosen from the Wh arithmetic

Example: a 27,000 mAh bank on Scoot

27,000 mAh at 3.7 V is 99.9 Wh, which is under the 100 Wh line, so it is fine to carry on Scoot (two banks at most, none used or charged in flight, not in the overhead bin) and on Emirates (one bank under 100 Wh). But if the cells are rated 3.85 V the same bank is 103.95 Wh: Scoot says ask first, and Emirates says no, because it allows only banks under 100 Wh. The checker shows both numbers and tells you to find the Wh printed on the label.

See the full table on the airline power bank rules page, or read how to choose a power bank that is fine in the cabin.

Does the arithmetic

Wh = mAh x volts / 1000, shown with the 3.6 to 3.85 V range so you see when an estimate could flip the answer.

Dated and sourced

Each airline row shows the date the rule took effect, the date I last checked it, and a link to the notice or a report quoting it. Airlines I could not source are left out.

Questions

Good to know

About 74 Wh at 3.7 V, under the common 100 Wh limit, so yes on every airline in the table, subject to the count and use-in-flight rules.

Can I use a power bank during the flight?

Not on Singapore Airlines, Scoot, Emirates or Lufthansa Group, per their notices. Charge devices and the bank before boarding.
