How to choose a power bank that is fine in the cabin

Buy by watt-hours, not by the biggest mAh number. Anything with a Wh figure printed on it that is clearly under 100 Wh (about 26,000 mAh at the most) is allowed by every rule on my airline table, and a 10,000 to 20,000 mAh bank is enough for most trips.
How I chose. I have not tested or owned any of these. These are four classes, picked from the arithmetic and the airline notices (Wh label, count and no-use rules). The buttons open Amazon search results for each class, so you see what is in stock now, not an old listing. No prices or ratings are shown because they go stale. Check the Wh printed on the exact unit you pick in the listing photos or specification before you buy.
Four classes to start from
1. Slim 10,000 mAh (about 37 Wh)
Two or three phone charges, light enough for a jacket pocket. Plenty for an airport day when you cannot use it in flight anyway.
Skip if: you also need to charge a laptop or tablet.

The all-rounder: fast phone and tablet charging, at least 23 Wh under the 100 Wh line (about 23 to 28 Wh, depending on the cell voltage).
Skip if: you want the lightest bag possible.

Only for travellers who charge a USB-C laptop at the airport. Wattage and capacity are separate: a 65 W bank can still be a 20,000 mAh, under-100 Wh bank.
Skip if: you only charge phones.

One less cord to lose at security. Same Wh rules.
Skip if: you already carry a good cable.

- Banks with no readable capacity or Wh label. Security staff can refuse them even if the real capacity is fine.
- Anything advertised above 27,000 mAh. At 3.7 V that is over 100 Wh, which means approval or a refusal.
- More than two banks (one on Emirates). Pick one good bank instead of several small ones.
